Subject:    Announcement of New Chancellor

I am pleased to name Dr. Arthur Q. Tyler as the new Chancellor for City College of San Francisco.

Dr. Tyler has experience leading community colleges in Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Houston. This leadership experience combined with his expertise in fiscal and accreditation matters, makes him uniquely qualified to lead City College.

Tyler most recently served as deputy chancellor and chief operating officer of the Houston Community College System, which operates six community colleges and serves more than 72,000 students in the greater Houston area. He also has a decade of experience serving California community colleges. Tyler served as president of Sacramento City College from 2005 to 2007; was the special trustee tasked to oversee the Compton Community College District from 2004 to 2005; and served as vice president of administration of budget and management for Los Angeles City College from 1997 to 2004.

I couldn’t be more pleased to have him on board. He will bring additional energy, focus, and expertise.  Dr. Tyler will join us on November 1st.

Message fromm Dean Terry Hall: Urgent notice regarding 5 Fulton project

Dear JAD Community,

I just received this notice and forwarding for your information.

Subject: Urgent notice regarding 5 Fulton project – action needed today / Tuesday

I apologize for the last minute notice

The MTA is holding a final meeting regarding changes to the 5 Fulton line this coming Tuesday, Oct 15at 1 PM at City Hall, room 400. This is the last chance you have to voice your opinion on the changes they are proposing to the 5 Fulton service improvements.

The plan originally included a proposal to remove parking along the eastern side of Central Street between Fulton and McAllister between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM seven days a week. The neighborhood got together and got the MTA to consider and alternate plan. See attached flyer and option #2

This will move the bus stop to Central and Lyon and not eliminate as much parking.

The plan to remove the parking along Central to improve bus service was flawed as it did not take into consideration the fact that the cars parked along Central are not responsible for the delays.  It is the large delivery trucks that block the street completely in their attempt to switchback into the Lucky delivery berths that are the cause of the 5 Fulton delays, as well as the number of smaller trucks that double park on Central. Many residents who live in the immediate area have been documenting these issues for some time

If you can’t attend the meeting we strongly urge you to call or write the two MTA project leads and the two supervisors to voice your opinion and urge them to consider option #2. We ask you do this today or tonight please.

With the potential 167 lost parking spaces a block away on Masonic, we can’t afford to loose yet another 12 parking spaces on Central, only one block away.

The real issue is that the loss of these spaces on Central would not guarantee that the service on 5 Fulton would see any benefit. The MTA always first chooses the plan that will eliminate parking.

Please address your emails to the two MTA staff members that are heading the 5 TEP project

Dustin White

Info Sessions on Obamacare

A message from Dean Terry Hall:

Dear JAD Community,

JAD Library will host a presentation about the new Affordable Care Act – also called “Obama Care.”  ßsee attachedment

Come to one of our sessions:   Monday, October 28  11am-12:15pm  or  Wednesday, October 30  9am-10:30am in JAD’s Auditorium, and learn about the new law and health care insurance options.  If you do not have health insurance and are low income, the federal government will pay for part or all of your insurance cost.

Come and find out what Obama Care is all about.

Dean Hall

Dean Hall, Alice Choi and I have scheduled two information sessions (see attachment) on the Affordable Care Act (AKA ObamaCare) in the John Adams Center Auditorium for Monday, October 28 11am-12:15pm AND Wednesday, October 30 9-10:30am. The sessions will be led by a Certified Enrollment Counselor approved by Covered California to answer questions about eligibility, coverage and enrollment for individuals and families. We anticipate these sessions will resolve many questions our students and college community have about health care reform.

Thank you,

Alan D’Souza
